Althought the recession, that causes that beds in hotels all over Prague lie empty, Nah-Dja Tien has decided to do the unthinkable - he’s opening another hotel named Moods Boutique Hotel. It is scheduled to open this December in Prague 1.
With funding from Greek investors, Tien helped establish The Icon hotel, which he opened right off Wenceslas Square in 2007. Even under the current financial climate, the hotel enjoys 90 percent occupancy and TripAdvisor lists it as one of the 50 most luxurious hotels in the world, putting it way ahead of many of its more pricey cousins.
Tien, who has overseen nine hotel openings Continent-wide, attributes The Icon’s popularity to a number of different factors, including polite staff, comfortable beds and showers in the guest rooms and good on-site food options. He hopes to duplicate this success with Moods Boutique Hotel.
The two hotels have different investors and will essentially be competing on the same market. However, Tien is still immensely proud of The Icon and plans to incorporate many of its details, services and style into Moods.
According to The Prague Post, Moods’ 51 guest rooms will be furnished with Hästens king-size beds, custom-made from Sweden and reputedly among the best in the world. Staff-wise, Tien will be looking to hire people with good personalities and a willingness to help; not necessarily ones who have a history of working in the hotel industry.
Would you like green menu?
The hotel, which will have stunning views of Prague’s riverbank, is a partial remodel of an existing building and a partial new build.
Moods will lean toward green themes, offering organic breakfast menus and closely monitoring energy wastage and trash disposal.
The plans call for a wellness center and a 24-hour bar and lounge café, able to serve breakfast or late-night snacks whenever a guest wants. There will also be a small conference center that can accommodate 50 people. Movies will be offered for free in the conference room when it’s not being used for meetings.
True to its name, Moods will focus on smells, sounds and feelings. Guests will have access to luxury toiletries and linen and will be able to choose their own music and even change the colors of the lights in their room.
Apple friendly hotel
Tien is also eager to make the new hotel high-tech and, more specifically, Apple friendly. Moods will be the first multimedia Apple hotel in the Czech Republic, according to Tien. Guests will have iPhone and iPod connections in their rooms. Some rooms will even have Apple computers.
